MICA Firehouse #5

Based on a design competition, this vacant historic Baltimore firehouse was awarded to a local art college for their Facilities Management Department. The design goals for the building included preservation of the historic character as well as reuse of the historic artifacts that still remained. An open stair wraps the new elevator shaft and continues through the former hose tower. The tower was restored and a skylight installed to bring daylight into the stair.
